The OIC/SMIIC Halal Traceability System (HTS) is a centralised system that enables the identification, verification and traceability of halal products certified in accordance with OIC/SMIIC standards.

HTS enables product, business and certificate information to be managed reliably through a shared digital infrastructure. This creates a transparent, reliable and verifiable source of information for all stakeholders in the halal ecosystem, from manufacturers, conformity assessment bodies and accreditation bodies to trade stakeholders, regulatory authorities and consumers.

With HTS, information about halal products becomes accessible, verifiable and traceable at product level. The trust established through halal conformity processes is thus transformed into an uninterrupted digital chain of trust from product to consumer.

In the global halal economy, manufacturers, Halal Conformity Assessment Bodies and Halal Accreditation Bodies build trust in line with their respective roles and responsibilities. However, a verifiable digital infrastructure is needed for that trust to accompany the product all the way to consumers and trade stakeholders. The use of fraudulent, invalid, misleading or unauthorised certificates and marks for halal products can put the trust and reputation of consumers, responsible manufacturers, reliable certification bodies and the entire halal ecosystem at risk.

In the halal economy, the ability to verify the resulting certificate, product and conformity information through a shared digital structure is just as important as establishing common standards.
